Ingredients
750 g Boerewors
5 ml (1 tsp) Seven Colours Grill Seasoning™
30 ml (2 Tbsp) Oil
4 slices Cheese
125 ml (¼ cup) Mayonnaise
15 ml (1 Tbsp) Hot sauce
5 ml (1 tsp) Lemon juice
5 ml (1 tsp) Honey
2 Gherkins, finely chopped
2 Burger buns
15 ml (1 Tbsp) Butter
1 Onion, cut into rings
15 ml (1 Tbsp) Worcestershire sauce
4 slices Streaky bacon, fried (optional)
1 head Crisp lettuce, shredded
2 Tomatoes, sliced
Method
Remove the casing from the boerewors. Season the meat with the Seven Colours Grill Seasoning™ and mix well.
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape into balls, then use a potato masher to flatten them into patties.
Heat 15 ml (1 Tbsp) oil in a pan and cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side. Place a cheese slice on top of each patty and cover with a lid to melt the cheese.
In a bowl, mix the mayonnaise, hot sauce, lemon juice, 2,5 ml (½ tsp) honey and gherkins.
Slice open the burger buns and butter the insides. Toast buttered side down in a pan until golden-brown.
Fry the onion rings in 15 ml (1 Tbsp) oil, then add the Worcestershire sauce and 2,5 ml (½ tsp) honey. Cook until soft and golden, about 5 minutes.
To assemble the burgers, spread the mayonnaise sauce onto the bottom half of each bun. Layer with shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, fried onions, a cheesy patty, bacon (if using), and another cheesy patty. Top with the remaining bun halves.
